Let’s unmask my favourite tracks of the month. First, the Aussies are back! Empire of the Sun kick off today’s mixtape with fellow Sydneysiders PNAU for a rare single. And London-based Swimming Paul released his sixth single this year. 2023 has been impressive so far for the French producer as he steadily builds towards his first full release.

Montréal’s TDJ dropped the third and final instalment of the SPF INFINI series. The video, directed by Laurence Baz Morais, pairs TDJ and collaborators’ anthemic euro-trance vibes with absurd yet eerily on point selfie-taking influencers who traverse a desert until the apocalypse destroys them. The end of the world’s never looked so great. Another local artist, Jesse Mac Cormack, successfully completes his full musical transition to electronic music with his new single “All Mine”. I saw him play a bunch of his new tracks at the Montréal Jazz Festival this summer and the energy was… electric.

A couple more shout outs: the soundtrack to French dancer and choreographer Léo Walk’s new film “Maison d’en face” is a masterpiece by Flavien Berger and a highly recommended listen. Both “GRV part. 02” and Ame’s “Rej” are standout tracks. Next is Dutch band Yīn Yīn’s new single which has me anxiously awaiting their album release next January. The “Year of the Rabbit” deep dives into Japanese cowboy musical motifs and psychedelic sounds. Also this month, Sufjan Stevens may have released his most expansive album yet. Javelin plays like a collection of self-standing songs that fit beautifully under the umbrella of the singer-songwriter’s back catalog. Hard to shit talk this album. And finally, SebastiAn has finally made all of his Saint Laurent runway shows available for streaming.
